Lego Movie

Legos have been entertaining, and challenging people’s creativity and pain tolerance since 1949. From the late 90s to early 2000’s it has become more IP (Intellectual property) versus original ideas. And until 2014 the most modern the company went was loaning the name Lego to video games.

To give this movie a proper review I will take on the challenge one step at a time, by acting the score and how good the animation looks as well as how it holds up ten years later. For the acting, it felt like the cast had a blast recording their lines. In terms of the plot, it’s strong and simple. Simple for kids to understand, but interesting enough for adults, more than likely the parents could enjoy it as well from the jokes and timing. To quotable lines that have stuck with us ten years after their original first hearing. The other part of this movie I love is the soundtrack. It is fun and vibrant, and steampunk has a Tron soundtrack feel with some tracks. The montage soundtrack is a sort of 80’s feal that could be intentional. The biggest song that came from this film is Everything is Awesome. This song for the entire year was at the center of everything meme on the radio or just used in YouTube videos. The funny part is even if you never saw the movie initially, the song brought people to eventually see the movie so that more traction/ traffic would be going to the film.

The Lego movie follows the story of Emmet Borkowski as he goes on a journey to save every Lego realm, (or everything Warner Brothers has with a little bit of likeness and a Disney property) The movie stars Chris Pratt, Elizabeth Banks, Will Arnett, Allision Brie, Charlie Day, Morgon Freeman, Will Farell, and Liam Neeson. The Lego movie cost $60–65 million to make the film and grossed $468.1 million worldwide. If you aren’t aware even though it looks like a stop-motion animation, it is computer animation. After the success of the film, there spend a sequel and spin-off of movies Lego Ninjago, The Lego Batman movie, and Lego Movie 2: The Second Part, not all of these became as big as the first Lego movie.

The most interesting part of the Lego movie being successful was that the movie that came out was not the first original story Lego movie. The Adventures of Clutch Powers which came out in 2010 was the first original story idea, unfortunately, it wasn’t successful. Another irony was how the movie then went to become a video game as did the sequel.

In conclusion, the Lego movie is a fantastic fun adventure that for the kids who grew up with it will show kids otherwise known as the next generation finding the older movies of the past. Interestingly this process will continue for a long time. For the rating out of ten Lego bricks, I’ll give it ten out of ten.
